What a reverse email lookup returns
This free reverse email lookup covers United States records. Every search fills the Activity Status panel and the Potential Owners section. The panel rows the search writes, in order:
- Email ID - the address as it was matched.
- Validity - the result of the address check: whether the address is a valid one.
The two rows beneath Validity show a dash and are not written by this lookup.
Below the panel, Potential Owners lists the people a record match connects to the address: name, age, addresses, related people and the phone numbers linked to it. That is the whole result: no profiles from other websites, no pictures, no dates. Every card is a record match, not a determination about a person.
What is a reverse email lookup?
A reverse email lookup is a search that starts from an email address and returns the person connected to it: the owner's name, age, addresses, related people and phone numbers. It is the inverse of a directory, which starts from a name and returns an address. The same search also reports whether the address itself is valid.
How the free email lookup works
- Enter the email address in the search box above, for example jane.doe@example.com (a fictional address). Capitalization does not matter; anything not shaped like an email address is rejected before the search runs.
- Pass the security check. A short Cloudflare Turnstile challenge confirms you are a person; it usually completes on its own.
- Read the Validity row and the owner cards. The Email ID and Validity rows say whether the address is real; the Potential Owners section says who holds it.
The result you see is the whole result: no pay-to-reveal step, no signup and no credits. The service is paid for by the advertising on the page; automated tools and bulk use are blocked so the lookup stays available to everyone.
Who owns this email address? What the result can and cannot tell you
Validity is not ownership
The Validity row answers a narrow question: is this a real address? An address can be valid and return no owner, because nobody has tied it to a record we compile; it can also return an owner card and fail the check, because the mailbox was closed after the record was made.
Shared, role and disposable addresses
Addresses such as info@, support@ or sales@ belong to an organization, not a person, and are read by whoever is on duty; a lookup on one returns nothing or the business behind the domain, never the employee who wrote to you. Temporary-mail services hand out addresses that live for a few minutes: a disposable address can pass the validity check while it is live and will almost never have an owner record.
Why some addresses return nothing
The address is not in the records we compile: it is new, was never given to a bank or a retailer, is an alias, or its owner asked for removal. The Validity row still fills in, so a valid address with no owner is a normal outcome, not an error.
Suspicious sender? What to do with a message you did not expect
Most unwanted email follows a handful of patterns: a bank, a delivery company, a tax agency or a software vendor asking you to confirm a password, pay a fee or open an attachment. None of them needs a reply.
- Do not reply, click a link or open an attachment. A reply confirms that your address is read; a link can lead to a page built to look like a login screen.
- Check the domain, the part after the @, character by character. Look-alike domains swap a letter, add a word or change the ending.
- Report it to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov and delete it. If you entered a password on a linked page, change it now, starting with your email account.
Reverse email versus reverse phone
This page starts from an email address: the Validity row first, then the owner. The reverse phone lookup starts from a ten-digit US number and adds the rows a mailbox has no equivalent for: registered state, Do Not Call status and litigator status. The people search page is the same lookup framed for finding a person.
Frequently asked questions
Is a reverse email lookup legal?
Yes, for ordinary purposes such as identifying a sender: the records are compiled from public and commercial sources. What the law restricts is the use. US People Search is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, so results may not be used for employment, tenant, credit or insurance decisions, and our terms prohibit using them to harass or stalk anyone.
Will the owner know I looked up their email address?
No. Nothing is sent to the address, and no message or alert goes to the person on the card. The search is anonymous to the owner, though not to us: see the next answer.
Do you store the email addresses I search?
Yes. The address you enter is processed to return the result and logged so we can detect abuse, automated scraping and performance problems, as the privacy policy explains. Searching an address does not add it to, or change, the records shown to anyone else.
Is this reverse email lookup free?
Yes. Enter the address, pass the human check and read the result. There is no account, no credit card and no blurred-out card asking you to pay to reveal a name. The service is supported by advertising; only automated and unusually heavy use is limited.
Does it work for email addresses outside the United States?
The form accepts any address, but the owner records cover people in the United States. An address whose owner lives elsewhere usually returns a Validity result and no owner.
What does the Validity row mean?
It is the result of checking the address itself, separately from the owner search: valid means the address is real, invalid means it is malformed or no longer exists. It does not say who owns the address; the Potential Owners section does.
Why does an email address return no owner?
The address is not in the records we compile. That is common for a new address, a secondary or disposable address, a role address such as info@ or support@, an alias on a personal domain, or an address whose owner asked for removal.
How do I remove my email address from US People Search?
Use the data removal page. Tell us the email address you want removed and how to reach you. A person checks that the record is yours before anything changes.
